My Namaz — Privacy Policy

Effective 31 July 2026

My Namaz is a prayer times and Qibla direction app, built and published by Shofiqul Islam.

My Namaz does not collect, store, or share any personal data. This policy is short because the app is simple: there's no account, no login, and the app makes only two kinds of outside request — both described in full below, and neither carries anything that identifies you.

Location

With your permission, the app reads your device's location to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction for where you are. This calculation happens entirely on your device, using a standard astronomical formula — your coordinates are never sent to the developer or used to compute anything on a server. If you decline the permission, or the app can't get a fresh reading, it falls back to the last location it successfully read (or a default seed location, until GPS succeeds at least once) rather than asking you to type one in — there is currently no manual location entry.

If you choose a specific mosque's timetable instead of GPS calculation (see below), that's the way to get accurate times without depending on live location at all — your device's location then isn't used for prayer times, only, if at all, to quietly fill in a field the mosque's own published timetable doesn't cover.

Mosque timetables

My Namaz can show a specific mosque's own published begin and jamaat times, rather than a generic calculation. This data is bundled inside the app itself and updated only when you install a new version — it is not fetched from a server while you use the app, so a chosen mosque's times work fully offline and never quietly fall back to a GPS estimate.

Place names

To display the name of your town (for example "Manchester" rather than a pair of coordinates), the app sends your approximate latitude and longitude to a reverse-geocoding service, BigDataCloud, to look up a place name. Only the coordinates are sent — no identifier, account, or anything else about you accompanies this lookup.

Checking for app updates

When the app starts, and at most once every six hours after that, it briefly checks a small version file on the developer's own website to see whether the installed version is old enough that an update is recommended. Nothing about you or your device is sent as part of this check — it's a plain request for a small public file. If a newer version is recommended, you'll see a dismissible prompt with a link to the store listing; you can tap "Not now" and carry on using the app. If you're offline, or the check fails for any reason, the app behaves exactly as normal.

What the app does not do

  • No accounts, sign-ups, or logins
  • No analytics or tracking of any kind
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers
  • No data shared with third parties, beyond the anonymous coordinate lookup above
  • No data collected from children or anyone else

Notifications

Prayer alerts are scheduled locally on your device using the operating system's own alarm system. They involve no external service and no network connection.

Settings

Your preferences — calculation method, Asr setting, alert choices, reminder timing, your chosen mosque timetable (if any), and your last-known location — are stored only on your device and are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Children's privacy

My Namaz is suitable for the whole family. Because the app collects no personal data from any user, it collects none from children specifically either.

UK GDPR

My Namaz does not process personal data about you. The only outside service that receives anything is BigDataCloud, and even then only anonymous coordinates for the one, functional purpose described above — never anything that identifies you. There is no profile, no account, and nothing that ties any of this to you individually anywhere in this app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes any of the above, this page will be updated before that version is released.
